In June 2026, the Findhorn Foundation was granted Special Consultative Status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), recognising more than three decades of UN engagement.
For the Ecovillage Findhorn community, this milestone creates opportunities to bring place-based learning into global dialogue. It also carries responsibility: to share knowledge grounded in experimentation and contribute to international processes concerned with redesigning of our presence on the planet.
At a time when trust in international institutions is under pressure and progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals remains uneven, the Ecovillage offers something modest but essential: evidence that global aspirations can be practised at a human scale. Its contributions include practical models for sustainable human settlements and ways of restoring regenerative relationships with ourselves, society and the Earth through frugality, simplicity and shared resources. The Ecovillage offers real-world experience of low ecological footprints, local governance, cooperative economics and values-based education, as well as reflective dialogue and creative conflict resolution—capacities urgently needed today.
Through the Findhorn Foundation's engagement with ECOSOC, this locally grounded knowledge can contribute to international conversations on sustainable human settlements, transformative education and a culture of peace.
