Organic
Food Production
In 1994 a Community
Supported Agriculture scheme called EarthShare,
based on organic and biodynamic farming methods,
was established to increase our use of local produce
as well as to enhance the quality of our food. The
scheme has expanded from 5 to 25 acres, including
cooperating with Cullerne Garden, the Findhorn Foundation's
market garden. It is spread over three sites, and
currently provides much of the community's temperate
vegetables requirements as well as supplying 140
individual households. EarthShare joins in efforts
to raise public awareness of the dangers of GM foods.
Organic cheese, eggs and meat are produced for the
community and bioregional consumers by Wester Lawrenceton
farm which occupies a 95-acre area overlooking Findhorn
bay and the Moray firth. With cows, sheep, chickens
and dairy facilities, the farm is providing solutions
to reducing food miles, while combining the best
of traditional methods with 21st century technology.
